All About Roald Dahl September 13 was Roald Dahl day, and I totally forgot to celebrate, which is a shame, because he's pretty much my favorite... not only for his slightly twisted and utterly magnificent young adult fiction, but for his grotesque, gallows humor-filled adult stories, as well. If you haven't read his work, I don't think we can be friends any longer, so you might better get on top of that!
Oh-Me-Oh-My-Oh, September is a big month for new book releases, with heavy-hitting bestseller-likely authors like Audrey Niffenegger, Mitch Albom, Nick Hornby, Nicholas Sparks, and Margaret Atwood sailing onto shelves this month. I predict, though, that the bestseller of them all will be Dan Brown's latest, The Lost Symbol, which hits stores tomorrow and will once again divide the English-speaking world into two teams: people who love Dan Brown and people who like to mock the people who love Dan Brown. I hereby wave a preemptive white flag on that front.
The Best in Recently-Published Historical Fiction
Didn't pre-order your The Lost Symbol early enough, and have to wait an extra week for delivery? Or, y'know, would you rather be caught dead than reading that book? Same outcome: you're going to have to read something else for a couple of days. Historical fiction will likely fit the bill, especially those books on this list that have mysterious elements at play.
